(More customer reviews)The feel and look of this ice cream scooper is top notch. However, it is unfortunate that the most crucial part of the ice cream scooper is quite fragile. There is a plastic rod/joint that links the scraper lever to the scraper. If you have hard, sticky ice cream in the scooper and you press on the scraper lever too strong, the plastic rod/joint will crack. This makes the scraper unusable.
If you dig around for reviews on this product, you will find that many have the same issue and complains about this scooper.
I fixed my broken joint by purchasing some superglue for plastic models (the type that melts plastic). I used that to fix the crack and then wrapped electrical tape around it to further secure it.
The scraper is now usable again, but I am much more careful now when I use the scraper.
It is a pity that KitchenAid would abuse its brand by selling products that only look good but aren't as durable as they were.
