(More customer reviews)I originally rated this unit 4 stars, but unfortunately after getting two units that broke immediately, I would change this to no stars if I could. I bought this unit primarily to make crushed ice for tea and cocktails, and to make ice that fits easily into water bottles for biking and school use. It worked well for that application when it worked at all. The advertised settings for ice to make snowcones and slushies are non existent, which was a disappointment. It makes chunks of ice about 1/2 inch big, a few larger and a few smaller. The feet of the machine are little vacuum suckers, so the machine does not slide around during use. UPDATE: Unit worked fine with a minimum of jamming for about 10 days, and then the blades stopped turning. As per instructions, I let it sit to see if there was a piece of ice stuck, but to no avail. The motor buzzed, but nothing was moving in there. I returned it to Amazon for an exchange. I'll give it a second try, but if this unit fails, then I'll return it for a refund and try the Waring also listed on this site. UPDATE 2: The replacement arrived, and lasted through one tray of ice cubes. Again, the unit is jammed for no visible reason. Back it goes, and for a refund this time. Not recommended.

(More customer reviews)I love me some ice cream and this heavy duty tool does the trick. Instantly I was impressed with the quality; you can really feel the weight on this tool. My wife joked about using it to workout in place of a barbell. That said, you don't have to worry about this thing not breaking through the hard stuff. It's not a miracle worker so if you have your fridge set for absolute zero it'll still take some muscle to get through it. What's nice though is to won't bubble, chip, peel or BEND when you are carving out your icy fortune.

(More customer reviews)I was really excited when i bought this. It looked really cool. Well I followed the directions exatly. The machine kept jamming up and stopping. I checked the manual and did everything it said in troubleshooting. My friends that were over wanting homemade ice cream checked it out too. Eventually the motor burnt out and we ended up with nothing, and this was the first time i used it. I was pretty bummed out about it. I've been trying to look for info about it online, but it hasn't been easy. So sadly i would not recommend this item.

Chef's Choice 839 Krumkake Express Review

(More customer reviews)Very good unit to make krumkakes. The recipes that ship with the unit are easy to make and taste excellent. In the weeks following the purchase of this krumkake maker I must have baked over 100 krumkakes and was never disappointed!
Pros: Looks and feels good. Makes cakes up to 6" in diameter and very thin. The barrocco ornament of the iron looks very pretty on the cake.
Cons: To achieve the unified golden color of the cake must use temperature setting no higher than 3, otherwise they come out with patchy color. Because of this, each cake takes approx. 2 minutes to bake.
I have not tried the VillaWare unit, which claims to bake two 5" krumkakes in 30 seconds, but if that's the case than it could be a better choice for someone who needs to accomodate a large party of people fast.
Update 10/17/2008: Friend of mine has the VillaWare maker and she is very happy with it, since she can bake two at a time in about 30 sec. But I have tried her cakes and they don't nearly have that texture and firmness that Chef's Choice unit produces. Some of the difference could be attributed to the recipe variations, but the fast-baked VillaWare cakes just don't get that crispy yet firm sensation that I crave. Just my 2c.

(More customer reviews)bought this pan for my birthday cake !! October . It is a little flimsy, really lightweight.Same weight as a healthy choice tv dinner plate. The cake sunk in the middle due to uneven cooking. Cooks on the outside first and so cake sunk in the middle. I will try different heats to see if that helps. Also it states on directions cannot heat above 375 degrees fahrenheit. After baking the cake I noticed it said in directions to place cake pan on a shiny cookie sheet to cook. I did not do this but all my cookie sheets are no longer shiny anyways.also per instructions wash by hand, so it is not dishwasher safe either. But if you dont plan to be rough with it or use it too often it is a good novelty cake pan .
